Proposed amendments to the ePrivacy Regulation
On 10 July 2018, the Council of the European Union published draft revisions to the proposed ePrivacy Regulation (ePR). The ePR will repeal and replace the Privacy and Electronic Communications Directive 2002/58/EC. The ePR focuses on the confidentiality of users’ electronic communications. The draft focuses on ePR Article 6-Permitted processing, Article 8-Protection of end users’ terminal equipment information and Article 10-Privacy settings. While originally hoped to be effected at the same time as the GDPR, reports now suggest 2019 or even 2020 could be more realistic.
