COVID-19: HHS Confirms Restrictions on Disclosure to Media Not Altered

Media and film crews may not access any areas of a health facility where patients’ PHI will be accessible in any form (e.g., written, electronic, oral), or have film crews mask patients’ identities after the fact (e.g., blurring), without prior written HIPAA authorization from the patient; health entities may not require a patient to provide authorization as a condition of receiving treatment.
